Dacpano and Allvin Notch Game-Winners as U17 Canadians Take Back-to-Back One-Goal Games

Gavin Dacpano scored his second OT winner in three games and Adam Allvin notched the game-winner the next day, as the U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians won both of their games Sunday and Monday in the BCEHL’s showcase weekend at Burnaby’s Scotia Barn.


On Sunday, the Canadians beat the Vancouver NE Chiefs 4-3 in overtime. They then rallied against the Thompson Blazers on Monday morning for a 6-5 victory.


In the Sunday contest, Nicholas Harris scored twice in the first period and Peyton Fernandez also got a goal in the opening frame, as the Canadians jumped out to a 3-1 lead. The Chiefs, though scored early in the second on the power play, and then tied the game with only 20 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. In the extra period, Gavin Dacpano scored his seventh goal of the season, his second OT winner in three games, as GVC picked up its 12th victory. In goal, Joshua Read earned his sixth win of the season.


In Monday's game, the Canadians fell behind 3-0 with eight minutes left in the first, but came all the way back to stun the Blazers 6-5, with Adam Allvin scoring the game-winner with 10:57 left. Bruce McLeod and Luke Wilson scored late in the first period, cutting the deficit to 3-2, and Henry Goldman and Christopher Tang both scored in the second to tie the game 4-4. After Thompson went ahead 5-4 late in the second on a 5-on-3 power-play goal, William Trolland tied things up with 11:50 left in the third (his team-high 16th of the year), setting the stage for Allvin’s winning goal just a minute later. In goal, D’Angelo Brual kept GVC in the game with several big stops, and picked up his seventh win.  


With the two victories in the showcase event, the Canadians improved to 13-16-2-1 on the season with four games remaining. Next up, a home-and-home series vs. the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds on Feb. 15-16. Saturday’s game is at the Chilliwack Coliseum at 12:00 p.m., and Sunday’s contest is at the Richmond Oval at 11:15 a.m.
