Gill Scores Hat Trick as Part of Four-Goal Weekend for U18 Canadians
Nishaan Gill scored four times over the weekend, including a hat trick on Saturday, and Luca Martyniuk added two goals on Sunday, but the U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians dropped a pair of high-scoring games during the BCEHL’s showcase event at Burnaby’s Scotia Barn.
GVC lost 9-4 to the Valley West Giants on Saturday and 7-5 to the NE Chiefs on Sunday, falling to 10-17-4-2 on the season with three games remaining.
On Saturday, Gill opened the scoring seven minutes into the game, but the Giants then scored the next eight goals, five in the first period, for a commanding 8-1 lead. Gill added two more goals in the third to complete the hat trick, and Hudson May also scored for GVC in the third. Alan Peregrym and Joshua Read both saw action in goal for the Canadians.
On Sunday, the Vancouver NE Chiefs scored four goals in the second en route to the 7-5 win, despite Martyniuk’s two second-period tallies. The game was tied 2-2 in the middle frame before the Chiefs notched four straight goals to go ahead for good. Gill picked up his fourth goal of the weekend in the second period as well, while Sorash Ramlal and Cohen Smith also scored for GVC.
Through 33 games, Luca Martyniuk has a team-high 18 goals while Kaden Meyer leads the club with 47 points and 37 assists. In goal, Alan Peregrym has a team-best 24 appearances with eight wins and a 3.27 goals-against average.
The Canadians’ next game is on Family Day, Monday Feb. 17, against the NW Hawks at 5:45 p.m. at the Canlan Ice Sports North Shore. They then close out the season on Friday, Feb. 21 vs. the Hawks at home and Sunday, Feb. 21 vs. the Rockets at home.
