Law Scores Five Goals in U15 Canadians’ Four-Game Showcase Weekend

by K.P. Wee

Noah Law scored five times in four games over the weekend, but his efforts weren’t nearly enough as the U15 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians went winless in the BCEHL’s showcase event at Burnaby’s Scotia Barn on Feb. 7-9.

On Friday, the Canadians lost 6-2 to the NE Chiefs. The next day, they were defeated 8-6 by Cariboo and 5-4 by the NE Chiefs. Then on Sunday, it was a 4-3 loss to Fraser Valley.

The Canadians are now 4-22-1-1 through 28 games, with only two games remaining in the regular season. They have dropped eight games in a row, and are winless in their last 14.

But one of the team’s bright spots was Noah Law, who scored GVC’s first goal on Friday late in the first period against the Chiefs. Caden Chou then added a third-period goal, but the Chiefs had two power-play goals and scored three times in the third, including an empty-netter, to win 6-2.

In GVC’s next game on Saturday, Law scored a hat trick in the second period as part of the Canadians’ five-goal frame, but the Cougars—down 5-1 at one point—scored four times in the third in their 8-6 win. Noah Tait, Leander Han, and Keenan Mak had the other GVC goals. Brian Woolfenden, the Canadians’ leading scorer, picked up three assists.

Later on Saturday, Woolfenden had two goals and Law scored his fourth goal of the day (fifth in two days), but the Chiefs got the tie-breaking goal with 2:32 left in Vancouver NE’s 5-4 victory. Law finished with a goal and an assist, while Keenan Mak also scored for GVC.

In GVC’s final game of the showcase on Sunday, it was Fraser Valley scoring three times in the third—including two in the final 3:47 to break a 2-2 tie—to come away with the 4-3 win. Carter DeWolff, Braelyn Nunley, and Maxwell Clemens got the Canadians’ goals.

The U15 Canadians wrap up their regular-season schedule this weekend on Feb. 15-16 on the road in Kelowna, taking on the first-place Okanagan Rockets. Saturday’s game is at 3:00 p.m. while Sunday’s finale is at 10:00 a.m., with both contests taking place at MNP Place.
