Gavin Dacpano was the overtime hero on Saturday as the U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians defeated the Cariboo Cougars 4-3, before the visitors returned the favour with their own 4-3 triumph over GVC at the Richmond Oval on Sunday.

Saturday’s win was the Canadians’ fourth straight, and seventh in eight games. They trailed 3-1 after two periods, with Austin Mukai getting GVC’s only goal through the first 40 minutes. But Trevor Chin scored his 13th early in the third and Nicholas Harris got his ninth with 8:42 left, and then Dacpano notched his sixth goal at the 1:18 mark of sudden-death overtime. Joshua Read was brilliant in goal, stopping 30 of 33 shots for his fifth win.

On Sunday, the Canadians again fell behind 3-1, with Luke Wilson’s third goal just 1:58 into the game up to that point. Henry Goldman, however, scored his seventh and eighth goals to tie the contest 3-3 by the third period, before Cariboo notched the game-winner just 30 seconds after GVC’s tying goal. D’Angelo Brual, coming off a shutout in his last game, was outstanding in the loss, stopping 32 of 36 shots.

Through 30 games, the U17 Canadians have an 11-16-2-1 record, tied for sixth with the Cougars with 25 points, although GVC has two games in hand.

Offensively, William Trolland leads the team in goals (15), assists (16), and points (31). Trevor Chin is second with 13 goals, Luke Wilson has 13 assists, and Henry Goldman’s 20 points are second on the team. Among the goalies, D’Angelo leads the club in appearances (17), wins (six), and shutouts (two), while Joshua Read leads with a 3.60 goals-against average.
