U17 Canadians Win Sunday, Earn Split vs Giants
The U17 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians ended a three-game losing streak on Sunday, beating the Valley West Giants 5-3 to earn a split in their home-and-home series over the weekend.
The Canadians lost 7-1 at home on Saturday, their third straight defeat.
Through 18 games this season, GVC is 4-12-2. Even with that three-game losing streak, the Canadians are 3-3-0 in their last six.
On Saturday at the Richmond Oval, the Canadians trailed 3-0 before William Trolland scored with only one second left in the second period. Unfortunately, the Giants then responded with four goals in the third to put the game out of reach. Making his 10th appearance of the season, D’Angelo Brual made 25 saves for the Canadians.
On Sunday at the Planet Ice Delta, Jayden Rodas and Nicholas Harris each scored twice, as the Canadians salvaged the series split. Henry Goldman also scored for GVC. With the game tied 2-2, both Rodas and Harris scored second-period power-play goals to put the Canadians ahead for good. Joshua Read picked up the win in goal for the Canadians.
Trolland’s goal on Saturday gives him seven on the season, just one behind Trevor Chin for the team lead. Trolland, though, does lead the club with 15 points.
Next up for the U17 Canadians, another home-and-home series on Dec. 7-8 against the Vancouver NW Hawks. Saturday’s game is at 6:00 p.m. at the Canlan Ice Sports North Shore, and then Sunday’s contest is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. at the Richmond Olympic Oval.
