U18 Canadians Drop Two High-Scoring Affairs vs. Chiefs

by K.P. Wee

The U18 AAA Greater Vancouver Canadians dropped both games of their home-and-home series against the Vancouver NE Chiefs, losing 7-5 in Burnaby on Saturday and 8-4 at home on Sunday.

The Canadians have lost three straight.

On Saturday at the Scotia Barn, the Chiefs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period and led 6-1 early in the third, before the Canadians’ furious rally fell just short. Vlad Ursache scored twice in the third to cut GVC’s deficit to 6-3, and Kaden Meyer’s eighth goal with 2:37 left made it 6-4. Cohen Smith scored his second goal of the game with 13 seconds left to make it 6-5, before the Chiefs scored an empty-netter with three seconds remaining for the 7-5 final.

Sorash Ramlal had two assists for GVC.

On Sunday at the Richmond Oval, the Chiefs scored six goals in the first period and went on to win 8-4, despite Luca Martyniuk’s 15th goal of the season. Nathan Van Hoeke, John Bethell, and Kaden Meyer also scored for GVC.

Through 28 games, the U18 Canadians are 9-14-3-2 and in seventh place.

With his two goals on the weekend, Kaden Meyer has nine on the season, and a team-leading 39 points (12 ahead of Sorash Ramlal, who is second on the club). HIs 30 assists also lead the club (14 ahead of the closest teammates: Ramlal, A.J. Abell, and Cohen Smith).

Among the goaltenders, Alan Peregrym leads the team with seven wins and a 3.09 goals-against average.
